What will the future shape of architecture and design be? This will be the issue addressed by a panel discussion entitled “New Materials – New Building? Innovative Materials Applied”, being organized by Birkhäuser Verlag during the Darmstadt Summer of Architecture. Finnish designer Ville Kokkonen and architects Anne Lacaton (Paris) and Cino Zucchi (Milan) will draw on their own projects to describe how they make use of new materials and will discuss the interaction between form, structure and materials. Kokkonen will, for example, go into detail on the current Artek exhibition pavilion, a joint venture by Artek, Japanese architect Shigeru Ban and UPM (Unique Paving Materials), one of Europe’s largest paper makers. The discussion, which will be chaired by Andrea Wiegelmann, kicks off at 6 p.m. on September 16.
